What
if M.L.K. Had Lived?

What
if Martin Luther King Jr. had not been assassinated? What if he had
gone on with his fight for civil rights, or if he decided to do
greater things? So much was possible, but what would have been
accomplished? How long would he live, would another attempt be made
on his life? Would he affect more than just the United States, maybe
the World?

I
have many ideas as to what might have been. The world as we know it
would be a much different place. The civil rights movement wouldn't
get the emotional shove from his death, causing them to gain less
ground and over time start to lose it. Equal rights would soon become
nothing more than the unrealized dream of one man. Martin would soon
after lose all hope of his dream reaching reality, but he would still
hope that it would happen someday.

Other
countries would hear of the fall of the Civil Rights movement and
would begin to question the United States government and their
morality. Some African countries would see this as a challenge
towards their equality with other countries, leading to conflict
between their politics and ours. War would break out over the
subject. The U.S. would be unable to call upon its allies for help
because they might not agree with our reason for fighting this war.
Eventually, the U.S. would be invaded by countries such as the Soviet
Union, having seen an opportunity to end the Cold War in their favor.

Martin
Luther King Jr. would see what he had unintentionally

caused,
he would think that this could have all been avoided if equal rights
had been given. The States would never surrender because it would
cause a sharp blow to their pride. The fighting would continue until
we were driven into a corner and we would have only one option. One
way out, a fail safe, the bombs would be fired. The USSR would almost
instantly realize what had happened, what the U.S. had done. Certain
defense plans would be set into motion and more nukes would be fired.

The
dream and the world would die that day, not with a bang, but with a
whimper. All life would be eradicated from the face of the Earth. Any
survivors would not last long, the combination of starvation and
nuclear radiation would kill them off slowly. All would be equal. Our
home would become uninhabitable for a time. Microscopic life would
later evolve to inhabit the Earth again. Plant life would
re-establish itself, and advanced life would build up anew. The new
“Man” would discover the ruins of our civilization and
eventually find the cause of our destruction. They would learn from
this and build their own civilization on the ruins of ours. What
would happen from that point is up for interpretation. I see no point
in trying to figure out the nature of what they would accomplish, as
theirs is a doomed time line, and will never be, due to the fact that
Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated.

A short writing piece that I did for school last week. We had to write something about MLK. Spacing didn't transfer properly when I changed the file to an HTML.
